  • What web sites actually work in the classroom?

A federal research center has added another Web site to the lengthening list of similar ventures that distill what the research says on "what works" to improve the achievement of students in grades K-12. The new clearinghouse, called the Best Evidence Encyclopedia, or BEE.

The Adventure of the American Mind Online Education Program is funded by a grant from the Library of Congress. As a part of this grant, we have created self-paced online lessons using resources available on the Library of Congress website (www.loc.gov). These lessons included topics from flight to quilting and early mountain folk music. These interactive, online lessons and additional educational materials are available free on our website. This excellent student ready resource may be used by educators to supplement classroom activities.

NaturalReader is a Text to Speech software with natural sounding voices. This easy to use software can convert any written text such as MS Word, Webpage, PDF files, and Emails into spoken words.  NaturalReader can also convert any written text into audio files such as MP3 or WAV for your CD player or Ipod.

Convert to PDF from any application simply by 'printing' to the PrimoPDF printer. The benefits? Smaller document size, non-editable, universal.

www.teachade.com is an interactive meeting place on the Internet where PreK-12 teachers and educators come to discuss issues relevant to teaching, share and author curriculum, access resources that support their professional development, and have an impact on commercial providers of educational services and products.  Free online registration.

Free online tool to create rubrics, or modify existing templates. Templates available on topics from multimedia to art, science to music.

Free online internet research/activity tool.  Provides a starting point by allowing teachers to create "tracks" for students to keep them on "track".  You can create your own "track" or use one of thousands of previously created "tracks"!

The State Library Electronic Doorway is a handy way to browse for educational web sites.

A free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. The English version was started in 2001 and contains over 970,000 articles.
