Highly Qualified Personnel Requirements:

In order to teach in Alaska, a person must meet the requirements of the NCLB law.   This requires Alaska Certification and proof of Highly Qualified status.  Basically, you may prove you are HQ by submitting passing scores on Praxis II tests, meeting qualifications with HOUSSE, submitting HQ proof from another state, HS teachers proof of a college major, and/or National Board Certification.

Paraprofessionals can meet the HQ requirements by proof of a HS diploma or equivalent AND 48 semester credits from an accredited college or university , OR, AA or higher degree, OR, successful completion of the Parapro test and supervisor evaluation.
