Hobbies
To survive Kotzebue you definitely have to have a few good friends and definitely a good hobby or two. I picked up skateboarding my summer here when I noticed a few of my friends were really into it. Greg, Alan, Alan C., and Brandon have been skating since about 7th or 8th grade, so I had a lot of catching up to do. I started off really slow and after a two weeks I had the basics of riding the board(turning, stopping, kicking, and overall balance). I have been skating since then progressively getting better and better till now i'm able to land a handful of tricks like few styles of heel flips(fakie/backside/regular/double), pop shove-its, and an assortment of grinds and wheelies. I'm very far from a pro but i'm not to shabby. My second hobby would have to be riding around on four-wheelers. No I don't mean like going 30 mph around town riding I mean like beach riding, mud bogging, and just simply doing everything a four-wheeler isn't meant to do. Pushing the limits makes things a lot more enjoyable to me. I have grown out of the thrill of the 50-60 mph an hour cruising so little things like these give me that little adrenaline boost I need to get through the day in one piece.
