As you can probably surmise from the preceding
pages you have seen, I currently live in Kotzebue. I have lived here for
approximately 12 of my 16 years; the other four I lived in Nome. Luckily,
I manage to get out of town often on trips. Kotzebue is a nice place to
live, but it is far more bearable if you can get out into the rest of the
world at least a couple times a year. I visit my grandparents in Los Angeles
almost every year, and I see my other grandparents (along with my uncle
and cousins) in Omaha, Nebraska (bottom left) about every other year.
In addition to these routine trips, I have been to Florida, Boston, Utah,
northern California the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Costa Rica (top
left), and Australia. My family is headed to Mongolia via China this
June.
I'm not an especially social person. I spend most of my time out of school
at home, usually doing homework or reading something, be it a book, newspaper,
magazine, or Internet article. I prefer this to "riding" or other
diversions so many people up here take part in. I also like looking at coins
on online Internet sites; although I don't buy any, I like seeing what's
out there and how much it costs so when I go to coin shops in cities I'm
prepared.
I also enjoy getting out in the country around here (middle right).
I like camping if I'm not busy with other things, and if the weather's good.
I especially like going up to our cabin on the Mauneluk River (top and
bottom right). It's nice to get out of town for a while right after
school to unwind, read and boat around for two weeks.
