In this course, students will master an industry standard spreadsheet program and a presentation program. Critical thinking skills are applied through the use of real life and career oriented applications. Students become expert users of industry specific programs. Students who complete this course with our current software are prepared to pass Microsoft's expert level exams and earn a MOUS Excel and a MOUS PowerPoint Certificate.

Business Software II

Level: Grades 9-12

Length: 1 Semester

Students completing this course will master a database program and the creation of web pages. Critical thinking skills are applied through real life and career oriented applications. Students will become expert users of industry specific programs. Students who complete this course with out current software should be able to pass Microsoft's expert level exam and earn an MOUS Access certificate and a MOUS FrontPage Certificate.

Desktop Publishing

Level: Grades 9-12

Length: 1 Semester

Prerequisites: Word Processing

In this course students apply appropriate layout principles to design, edit, and produce professional publications, which include text and graphics. Elements of good design are emphasized for newsletters, brochures, letterheads, business cards and other publications. Students use publishing software required in today's technology driven environment.

Metal Technology I

Level: Grades 9-12

Length: 2 Semesters

Prerequisites: Basic Drafting I

Metal Technology I acquaint students with many basic processes used in several mental working fields. Students will learn to safely use a variety of general and specific hand tools. The student will be expected to solve some small metal working problems before he/she may proceed to any major project work. Students will complete projects either individually or as part of a group of two or more in the following areas: sheet metal, welding, wrong iron, forging and/or machine metalworking.

Photography I

Level: Grades 9-12

Length: 2 Semesters

Prerequisites: Art I, Algebra I, English 9, Computer Applications

This course provides an introduction to both fine arts and applied approaches to black and white photography and digital imaging. The course will cover history, equipment, ethics, careers, techniques, composition, processing, and vocabulary. Activities will include oral and written critiques, professional presentations and conclude with a final portfolio of selected works. Students may gain skills in the darkroom and with image editing software.

Power Technology I

Level: Grades 9-12

Length: 2 Semesters

Through the study of power technology (small engines), the student will become familiar with the design and theory of operation, systems, repair, and maintenance of several types of fossil fuel powered devices as well as skills in the use of machines, tools, and methods common to these devices. This course should interest the student seeking to enter technical school, engineering, general employment or subsistence lifestyles.

Video Production

Level: Grades 9-12

This one semester course is designed to give entry-level skills in the theories and techniques of video production. Students will learn standard safe practices and master both the equipment and software required for today's video world. They will develop written and oral presentation skills while working on projects that demonstrate professionalism and a strict adherence to ethical standards. Students will develop a critical eye as they examine their own completed work as well as the completed work of others. They will use the skills gained to develop culturally diverse productions for business, training, entertainment, communications, and marketing.

Wood Technology I

Level: Grades 9-12

Length: 2 Semesters

Prerequisites: Drafting I

This course acquaints the student with many basic processes used in several woodworking fields. Students will learn to safely use a variety of general and special hand tools. At the beginning of the course, the student will be expected to solve some small woodworking problems before proceeding to any major project work. All students will complete (individually or as part of a group) projects in the area of hand tool working and basic carpentry.

Word Processing

In this course, students learn and apply word processing skills to produce a variety of personal and business documents. Critical thinking skills are applied through real life topics and career oriented applications. Students become expert users of an industry specific/industry standard software program. Students who complete this course with our current software should be able to pass Microsoft's expert level exam and earn a MOUS Word Expert Certificate.

Workplace Basics I

Level: 9-10

Designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop skills needed for positive placement in the work force and gain proficiency in essential life skills. It will provide students with instruction in career awareness, job seeking skills, skills needed at a job, and independent living skills. The course will include assessment of career interests, personality profiles and aptitudes through the use of validated assessment tools. The objectives of define specific knowledge, skills and abilities that students need to cope effectively with lifelong career development tasks. Students will gain work experience through community or school-based enterprises, community service. Cooperative Work Experience, or the transition program provided for students on and IEP. Educators are encouraged to utilize the local business people as resources to provide a variety or work-based activities to supplement in-class units.

Workplace Basics II

Level: Grades 11-12

Length: 2 Semesters

Credits: 1

Prerequisites: Workplace Basics I

This course is designed to provide students with a non-paid mentorship experience in a specific identified career. Students will be taught on a one to one basis with a technical or professional mentor from the community. Work sites can be profit or non-profit agencies and should relate to the student's career pathway. A related vocational education class needs to be taken concurrently with this course. Both the school district coordinator, employer, and student will help develop technical competencies, career goals, and a training plan.
