Being an Explorer

This is your journey. You are the explorer in a vast wilderness. Your adventure will span a length of time that you deem necessary. You will see some awesome sights in Alaska. Some are natural wonders, some are never before seen occurrences. You will even meet native cultures and see first-hand their villiages and learn how they survive in some really harsh conditions.

You will have to determine how long your adventure will last. For instance, you might want to explore in the early Spring and return in the Fall. You might want your adventure to take a full year so that you can learn to survive in all types of weather. After you determine how long your adventure will take, plan your supplies.

You may also want to read about other early explorers. After all, this epic is about the adventures of dreamers and risk-takers in the state. So, get your gear and your journal and let’s go exploring.

Pretend that you are an explorer and that you have been asked to make a journal about the wonders of the Alaskan wilderness.

You will need to collect facts to build a story, and also pictures to start making a storyboard.

First you have to find out a few basic facts about the area you want to explore:

What is the total land area?

What is the total population?

How many persons per square mile?

Next, what are some unique and wonderful sites, villiages or animals that you would put into a journal?

Some things to think about:

What are the tallest mountains?

Are there some special beaches you’d like to show?

What about state parks?

Unusual animals?

Finally, do you know about any famous people in Alaska?

Don’t forget to collect pictures!!!
