Activity:


Objective:
Students will use an atlas or other reference materials to locate Alaskan landmarks and label them on a map. They will then identify which areas of the state have representative geological areas, wildlife populations, trees and flowers or other attractions that accompany the symbols for Alaska.

Materials:
Activity sheet, pencil, atlas or social studies text, books and other materials about Alaska


Directions:

Alaska Day is on October 18.
Begin this activity by finding out what students know about the geography of Alaska. What oceans surround it? What is its highest peak?
If possible, show students visual materials of the Alaskan terrain.
Hand out the worksheet and direct students to use reference materials to label the map.
