Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in NWABSD encompass six pathways:
Our schools offer a wide array of electives, and we connect students to our Alaska Technical Center in Kotzebue to prepare them for successful careers after graduation. We encourage students to get a head start on their college careers by earning credits at Chukchi College, the Kotzebue extension of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Beginning in the sixth grade, students keep career exploration portfolios, which help track their interests as they move toward graduation. We encourage teachers to incorporate their own working experience into career exploration lessons, and middle and high school teachers are often asked to offer CTE electives based on their own background and expertise. Health, information technology and the construction trades are three areas NWABSD addresses where demand in the workforce is especially high.
