Buckland

Buckland is located on the banks of the Buckland River, approximately 75 miles south of Kotzebue and 40 miles below the Arctic Circle. The population is currently about 450. This community of about 408 is comprised mostly of Inupiaq Eskimos that still live a subsistence lifestyle. The Buckland River provides the locals with a strong supply of fish. A caribou herd migrates near the village almost all year long. The current school was built in 2002.
