Student Activities

The goal of student activities is to augment the academic curriculum with extra-curricular opportunities outside of the traditional classroom setting.  These include academic competitions such as Battle of the Books, science fair and spelling bee, as well as sports like basketball, volleyball, cross country and wrestling.  Some of the benefits of extra-curricular activities include physical fitness, problem solving, self-confidence, teamwork and time management.  Extra-curricular activities also foster a connection to the school and learning, including after school hours and during the summer months when school is not in session.

Jake Stoops, Student Activities Coordinator, has a MA in Teaching, University of Alaska Southeast and a BS in Kinesiology, University Nevada Las Vegas. He has been the Student Activities Coordinator from 1999-2001 and more recently since 2007. He was also the Kotzebue High School Physical Education teacher and Girls Basketball coach from 2001-2007.
