Presently there are two small general merchandise stores, a small medical clinic (Maniilaq), a city hall and a tribal council building. There are numerous recreational and hunting opportunities in the region. A 15-mile service road leading to the "Bornite Mine" provides ample avenues for hiking, bicycling, snow machining, cross-country skiing, and hunting (hunting license needed) - all depending on the season. The Kobuk River is a world-class fishery a provides a good stock of sheefish, whitefish, pike, grayling, burbot, and chum salmon for anglers. The river is a dream destination for many rafters who are flown up the river and float down to the mouth of the river.
Kobuk, by far, has to be one of the most beautiful places in Alaska.
