Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Carol Smith
I taught in Alaska rural schools several years before returning to Tennessee as the caregiver for my elderly Mother. I returned to Alaska for school year 2017-2018 at Kiana School. For school year 2018-2019, my teaching assignment is at Buckland School. The school year began with new students and staff members. Life in the village of Buckland has been very enjoyable while participating in the community picnic with lots of food, conversation and fun. I had the opportunity to meet the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters of my students.
I assisted with a fundraising event the first weekend in September 2018. The fundraising event was intramural basketball games for elementary, middle and high school students. The students were some of the most mannerly and courteous to each other and to adults that I have had the opportunity to observe. The overall sportsmanship was great and the students had a wonderful time. And the fundraiser for the 11th grade class was successful.
I have always enjoyed working with children and attending college. First, a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN with an elementary endorsement for grades 1-8 with an additional area major in science - Biology, Earth Science and Physical Science. Second, a Master of Arts Degree in Health and Physical from Tennessee Technological University with an additional area major in guidance and counseling. Third, an Educational Specialist Degree from Tennessee Technological University in administration and supervision with an elementary principal endorsement. Fourth, completed 24 semester hours in curriculum and instruction from Tennessee Technological University for a special education endorsement for grades K-12. I find it a rewarding experience to work with students with special needs and I am looking forward to a great year.
