How does NWABSD make decisions to keep our students and communities safe?
The School District works with local school principals and village leaders, as well as Maniilaq Public Health to evaluate risks to the community. Factors for determining risk levels are:
- number of positive cases
- level of case impact to the community
- number of quarantined cases
- level of community compliance with current mandates
- level of travel by residents
- availability of staff
Schools in the district can operate under Red/Remote Learning, Yellow/In-Person Learning, or Green/Low Risk statuses. Under the Red/Remote Learning status, students call in to classes and use devices loaded with school content. Under the Yellow/In-Person Learning status, students go to school and may be divided into Groups A and B to reduce class sizes. Under the Green/Low Risk status, all students go to school four days per week.
