Uvlaloduk, Osiyo, Hello!
My name is Eleanor McCrary, but the students call me Ms Mack. I have been teaching for about 15 years. This school year began my 7th year in Alaska and my 5th year at Aqquluk Elementary in Noorvik, AK.
Before moving to Alaska, I lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma. My childhood was spent on a small, family farm. My family raised a large garden each year- canning and freezing what we could not eat during the summer to eat during the winter. In addition to that, my mother was an avid berry picker, mushroom-seeker, and wild herb gatherer, so I learned much about subsistence activities and local plants from her. My father and uncles hunted and fished, so we frequently had wild game and fresh fish to eat. My grandmother was a seamstress and made beautiful embroidery and crochet. I learned these skills from her. I believe many of these experiences helped me when I relocated to Alaska.
I love working for NWABSD, and I love teaching in Noorvik. My family and I are very happy here. I am awed by the natural beauty that surrounds me almost everyday. I feel that I am a part of something greater than myself and I believe that what I do matters and makes a difference. I am looking forward to living and working here for many years to come.
