Ambler
Nestled at the confluence of the Ambler and Kobuk Rivers, Ambler is approximately 135 miles northeast of Kotzebue, accessible only by air. Ambler is the only village in the Northwest Arctic Borough (outside of Kotzebue) with a year-round lodge and a restaurant specializing in gourmet meals. With a population around 300, Ambler has an economy based primarily on subsistence activities. The Native craft industry has recently expanded; local carvings and jewelry have been a great boon to the economy. Ambler has a variety of fish and wildlife, and sits about 20 miles up river from the Kobuk Valley National Park.
