Buckland, located on the Buckland River about 75 miles southeast of Kotzebue, is home to about 450 residents. Nunatchiaq was built in 2002 and serves about 168 students, about 96% of whom are Alaska Natives. Eleven teachers provide academic and non-academic extra-curricular activities that include basketball and Eskimo dancing.
