About Deering School
Deering
With approximately 150 people, Deering has 50 students enrolled in school. Deering lies south of Kotzebue along a horseshoe-shaped bay. Established in 1901, Deering was a supply station for Interior gold mining near the historic Malemiut Eskimo village of Inmachukmiut. Deering still provides some jobs for the locals in mining, fishing, and reindeer herding.
