What is ANSEP NWABSD STEM Ready (STEM Ready)?
STEM Ready is an academic and residential experience that emphasizes increasing students' mathematics and science knowledge and skills while introducing them to college life. ANSEP promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. Each day students will participate in activities that include problem solving, research, critical thinking and communication skills. ANSEP staff will lead all academic activities. This summer session offering is sponsored and in partnership with the Northwest Arctic Borough School District (NWABSD). Students attend STEM Ready free of charge.
When and where will STEM Ready occur?
STEM Ready will be held June 10 -12, 2023 (travel on June 9 and June 13) in Nome and hosted by ANSEP and NWABSD. Students will be housed on the NWABSD campus during the program. It is mandatory for all participants to stay in the provided housing for the duration of STEM Ready. Transportation will be provided between hometowns in the region and Kotzebue.
Who should apply to STEM Ready?
NWABSD students currently in the 5th grade, who:
o Are interested in STEM
o Have at least a B average in science and mathematics courses, and
o Are on track (or can get on-track) to complete Algebra 1 before entering high school.
How do you apply?

. Student and Parent/Guardian complete the student application form (pages 1-3) OR fill out the electronic application -see below for details.

. Parent/Guardian signs Transcript Release Form (page 4) authorizing ANSEP to obtain academic records directly from your school district.

.Online Recommendation Form from CURRENT math and science teacher(s) -see below for details.

. Include all application documents together in one packet. Only complete applications will be
considered.
The complete application packet should be turned into your school front office. The application deadline is April 28, 2023.
How do you get recommendations from your MATH and SCIENCE teacher?
o Contact your math and science teacher to inform them about your application and the requirement for their recommendation.
o Inform them of the April 28 application deadline.
