The Advisory School Council (ASC) functions under the direction of the NWABSD School Board serving in an advisory role. The ASC shall seek to learn the will of the people of the community and to represent their interests by communicating issues and concerns of the community to the Kotzebue schools' principals or their designees. The ASC communicates the information discussed at meetings to the NWABSD School Board for review and consideration.
The Kotzebue ASC comprises seven members elected to three-year terms. Elections for any open seats are typically held concurrently with city and borough elections in October. Seats that become vacant in the middle of an elected term are filled by appointment until the end of that seat's term.
Meetings of the Kotzebue ASC are alternately held in the JNES or KMHS library. Please see the school calendar on the homepage for upcoming meeting information. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
