Salary

  • Current salary schedule in effect for the FY 24 School Year. (Please see NAEA agreement below for salaries.)
  • Automatic step increases, column movement based on credits.
  • Official transcripts and verifications of service must be received in the HR Office by October 10 to get credit for that school year.
  • New teachers can bring in a maximum of six years out-of-state experience with a Bachelor's Degree or eight years with a Master's Degree; eight years with a Bachelor's Degree or ten years with a Master's Degree if at least two of those years are in Alaska.
  • First paycheck August 31. New teachers can request a $1,000.00 advance the first 2 days of work, repaid over first ten checks.
  • Salary can be divided into ten checks (August through May), or twelve checks (August through July).
  • Valid Alaska teaching certificate must be on file within 90 days of employment.
  • New teachers can get one time $1,500 moving reimbursement for travel or expenses to move to district. (Receipts required.)
  • Reimbursement for Alaska State Initial Certification fees for new hires. (Receipt required.)
  • Reimbursement for Praxis II tests in order to obtain Alaska Certification.

Retirement

  • State of Alaska - Teachers' Retirement System Tier III, Defined contribution; no social security participation
  • Employee contribution 8.0% or allowable maximum, District contribution 7%.
  • Employees with prior TRS service may qualify for Tier I or Tier II.

Leaves

  • Personal leave of three days per year, cumulative to ten.
  • Sick leave of 1 1/3 days per month pre-credited. (According to Law)
  • Sick leave bank (optional) - donate one day of sick leave and be a member with continuous employment with NWABSD

Health/Life Insurance

  • NWABSD Plan serviced by Meritain: Medical, Dental, Visual, Audio
  • Employee cost $1080/yr (pre-tax), includes all dependent coverage. Coverage effective Sept. 1.
  • Life insurance $50,000 for teachers, $100,000 for administrators with option to add supplemental coverage at employee expense.
  • Long Term Disability insurance (employer-paid)

Housing

  • Low rent ($400-$1,000 / month) modern and furnished District Housing at Village Sites. ($5000 stipend/year for certified staff opting to live in non-district housing.)
  • Village housing electricity, water and sewer, and heating at no additional cost to the employee.

  • Employee contribution 6.75% or allowable maximum, district contribution 7%. There are additional contributions made by the district for various parts of the hybrid retirement plan.
  • Employees with prior PERS service may qualify for Tier I or Tier II.

Leaves

  • Annual leave of 1 day/month first year. Annual leave increases after 1, 5, and 10 year anniversaries.
  • Sick leave of 1 1/3 days per month.
