Founded centuries ago by Kobuk River Kowagmiut Inupiat Eskimos, Kiana is located 57 miles east of Kotzebue and 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle, near the Squirrel on the banks of the Kobuk Rivers. The name translates to “the place where three rivers meet.” Kiana boasts a population of around 400 people. 97% of the 123 students are Alaskan Native.
